Lee Kang-in gets into late action as PSG fall to Dortmund in Champions League semis
Korean midfielder Lee Kang-in had limited action as his Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) got knocked out of the UEFA Champions League at home. Borussia Dortmund defeated the French champions 1-0 in the second leg of the semifinals at the top European club tournament at Parc des Princes in Paris on Tuesday (local time).Dortmund advanced to the final on a 2-0 aggregate win, having taken the opening leg 1-0 last week in Germany. It will be Dortmund’s first trip to the Champions League final since 2013, when they lost to German rivals Bayern Munich 2-1.
A potential rematch is in play, with Bayern set to take on Real Madrid in the second leg of their semifinals Wednesday in Madrid after playing to a 2-2 draw in the first leg.Lee, who did not play in the first leg, was subbed in for Warren Zaire-Emery in the 76th minute, with PSG trailing 1-0 on a goal by Mats Hummels.Lee couldn’t help PSG cut into 커뮤니티 the deficit, though it wasn’t for lack of trying. With a direct free kick in the 82nd minute, Lee found Marquinhos for a header that went just beyond the far post. Some seven minutes later, Lee himself missed the target to the left with an attempt.
In between those efforts, Vitinha struck the woodwork for PSG, while Kylian Mbappe’s shot went off goalkeeper Gregor Kobel and hit the crossbar. Lee became the fifth Korean player to appear in a UEFA Champions League semifinal match, joining Lee Young-pyo with PSV Eindhoven in 2005, Park Ji-sung with Manchester United in 2011, Son Heung-min with Tottenham Hotspur in 2019 and Kim Min-jae with Bayern Munich last week. PSG’s elimination ruled out the possibility of the first Korean vs. Korean duel in the Champions League final. Kim, however, appears unlikely to play in the second leg this week after making two costly mistakes that resulted in both of Real Madrid’s goals in the first leg.
