Another ‘Ryan Mason replacement’ on the way.
Another ‘Ryan Mason replacement’ on the way.
“The position of manager Enzi Postecoglou, 59, is on the rocks,” the British media outlet Football Insider reported on Aug. 18 (KST). Postecoglou could be sacked if Spurs fail to qualify for Europe this season,” reported Football Insider.
Spurs are currently facing increasing criticism for their inconsistent performances and defensive weaknesses. In particular, the recent 1-2 loss to Ipswich Town has raised concerns among fans. Spurs have kept a clean sheet in just four of their 17 games this season, highlighting their defensive insecurities.
Former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson told the Football Insider podcast, “Postecoglou’s number one goal is to qualify for Europe. If he fails to do that, he could be sacked during the season,” he said.
“At the moment, Postecoglou is sticking to his tactical style, which doesn’t suit some of the players in the squad. Failure to qualify for Europe would be an unacceptable result for the club.”
To add insult to injury, the English Football Association (FA) on Monday handed Rodrigo Bentancur a seven-match suspension and fine. 메이저사이트 Bentancur spat a racist slur at captain Son Heung-min in June. The player explained that he had no racist intentions, but this was not accepted.
More recently, there have been rumors of discord between Postecoglou and the squad.
In addition to Bentancur, goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, vice-captain Cristian Romero, and Destiny Udogie were reported to have fallen out with the coach.
With controversies such as Bentancur’s, and the team’s overall atmosphere in disarray, the pressure on Postecoglou is growing. If Postecoglou is fired during the season, it’s possible that Ryan Mason will step in as acting head coach once again.
Mason has already served as acting manager twice before, in 2021 and 2023. In 2021, he led the club for the remainder of the season after Jose Mourinho was sacked, and last season he took over on an interim basis after Antonio Conte was sacked.
While it remains to be seen if Tottenham will take the drastic step of replacing their manager mid-season, Postecoglou’s position and Mason’s name have been constantly mentioned among fans.
