Heon-ho summarized his 25-year relationship with the LG
Kyung Heon-ho, the new pitching coach of the SSG Landers, summarized his 25-year relationship with the LG Twins.
In his professional life, it was always LG. He was drafted by LG as a high school senior in 1996 and joined the team in 2000 after graduating from Hanyang University. And even after his playing career ended, he continued to coach with LG for more than 10 years. This is the first time he has moved to a team other than LG.
Lee had been a pitching coach in mind since a year ago. At that time, he was unable to change teams due to circumstances, but this time it was finalized. He also has a strong relationship with manager Kim Jae-hyun, so he will be able to start in a more relaxed atmosphere even if he comes to a completely new team.
Coach Kyung Heon-ho is currently coaching the pitchers at the final camp in Satsumasendai, Kagoshima, Japan. SSG’s roster is centered around prospects in their 20s, including Choi Hyun-seok, Jung Dong-yoon, and Kim Gun-woo. Coach Kyung Hun-ho is actively giving the prospects advice based on his know-how and data analysis.
Some pitchers are already showing signs of change.
“I’ve only been with one team for 25 years. I listened to the players a lot, but if I saw their faces at the end, I would have cringed a little, but fortunately I didn’t. I didn’t see anything ugly,” he laughed.
The task is a heavy one, as he is well aware of SSG’s situation, which has been troubling all over the mound this season. “It was a little different when we were playing against SSG and when we were thinking about moving them. When I saw their pitching, I thought it would be hard to do well, but when I came and saw them again, I thought, ‘It’s better than I thought. 토토사이트 I’m still thinking about it at home and watching the players. It will take time to become the No. 1 pitching team, but I’m confident that if we prepare like this, we will get better.”
Choi Hyun-seok, Park Sung-bin, Park Si-hoo, Kim Gun-woo, Shin Ji-hwan, Jung Dong-yoon, and others are currently training in the final camp and are already looking ahead to the 2025 season by observing the various strengths and weaknesses of their pitchers.
SSG has a thirst for a left-handed bullpen, but rather than focusing on the left side, they are looking for better pitchers. “It’s good to have a good left hand, but you can’t necessarily use a left hand that doesn’t play,” said coach Kyung Heon-ho. Kim, who joined the team in a trade, is a good two-seam pitcher, so he could be a strength against left-handed hitters. We’ll give it a try until next year’s camp, and if they (the left-handed pitchers) decide it’s not a good idea, we’ll go with a right-handed pitcher against left-handed hitters.”
He’s also thinking about mixing things up.
SSG believes that the two foreign pitchers, Kim Kwang-hyun and Moon Seung-won, are likely to get the first chance to start next season, while the bullpen will be composed of Noh Kyung-eun, Cho Byung-hyun and Seo Jin-yong, all of whom are in the process of signing free agent contracts. “If Seo Jin-yong is okay, about seven people will be fixed, including Seo Jin-yong. But it also means that the remaining seven spots are empty. I think the team should give promising players a chance, so that the team can look further ahead than just next year to grow and change players.”
In the final camp, which has now passed the point of no return, the pitchers have changed. “When I first came here, the SSG players just did what they were told to do,” said Coach Kyung Heon-ho, ”but they were encouraged to find something and do it themselves. At first, they couldn’t do that, but as time went on, I started to see them doing things on their own. Something is changing in the way they work out and how they feel about these things. I think SSG can be a strong team if this is well established,” he encouraged.
