The Hanwha Eagles’ lineage of “lightning balls” continues.
Jeong Woo-woo (18-Hanwha Eagles) makes his first appearance in a Hanwha Eagles uniform.
Miyazaki, Japan, where the Hanwha finalization camp is underway. After rain on both the 15th and 16th, the weather cleared on the 17th for the practice game.
In the top of the sixth inning, rookie Jung Woo-ju took the mound. A graduate of Jeonju National University, Jung was selected by Hanwha in the first round (2nd overall) of the 2025 KBO Draft.
He was considered the “biggest name” alongside Duksugo’s Jung Hyun-woo, throwing in the mid-150s since high school. Kiwoom picked Jeong after much deliberation, and Hanwha got a hard-throwing pitcher in Jeong Woo-woo after Moon Dong-joo and Kim Seo-hyun.
Jeong, who threw a lot of pitches in high school and had been working on strengthening exercises, pitched for the first time that day.
In the top of the sixth inning, Jung struck out Han Kyung-bin on a fly ball and induced a grounder to Bae Seung-soo at second base. He then gave up a single to Lim Jong-chan, but struck out Lee Seung-hyun to end the inning.
His fastball was clocked at 150 mph.
He threw a total of eight pitches, one curveball and all the rest were fastballs.
Hanwha pitching coach Yang Sang-moon said, 파워볼사이트 “For a fastball pitcher, he throws the ball smoothly. Pitchers who throw more than 150 kilometers sometimes need a lot of force, but Jung throws smoothly. I think it’s very attractive.”
After his first start, Jung said, “I thought I would be nervous, but I didn’t feel nervous when I got up there. I didn’t do badly, but I wasn’t satisfied.”
He still has some work to do to improve. “I didn’t mind the restraints. However, I think I need to work on it because I hit a lot of hard shots,” he said.
As he worked with professional seniors in the finishing camp, he said, “At first, it was strange to work out with the seniors I saw on TV,” and smiled, “I’ve only pitched one inning yet, so it would be better if I could come to the first team and face batters later.”
As Hanwha enters its first year in the new stadium era, Jeong made the opening day roster his primary goal. “I want to make the opening day roster and continue to show good form, so that when the team goes to fall baseball, I’ll still be on the roster, so I’ll be a player who can help the team consistently,” Jung said.
