World Cup Round of 16 virtually over, South Korea women’s soccer hopes for ‘future’ against Germany

The red light is on for the South Korean women’s soccer team’s quest to reach the round of 16 at the World Cup for only the second time in their history. South Korea will take on Germany, one of the world’s strongest women’s soccer teams, in the final group game of the tournament. 스포츠토토 Fans are eager to see if the South Korean women’s soccer team can get their first win of the tournament and give hope to the future of women’s soccer.

Head coach Colleen Bell’s side lost 0-1 to Morocco in their second Group H match at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia-New Zealand 2023 on Tuesday at Hindmarsh Stadium in Adelaide, Australia. The South Koreans dropped their second game of the tournament to finish last in Group H after a 0-2 loss to Colombia in the first round.

South Korea looked frustrated throughout both matches, unable to open up their offense. Against Morocco, South Korea failed to generate a single shot on goal and looked like they were being dragged around by a Morocco team that was considered a step below them.

Group H is shaking up the standings, with Colombia pulling off the upset of FIFA’s No. 2 ranked team, Germany. The Colombians won 2-1 on Sept. 30, with the game-winning goal coming seven minutes into the second half. With two wins, No. 1 Colombia (6 points, +3 goal differential) secured a spot in the Round of 16. Second place is Germany (3 points, +5 goals for) and third place is Morocco (3 points, -5 goals for). South Korea is in last place with 0 wins, 0 losses, and -3 goals for.

After two straight losses, South Korea’s chances of advancing to the round of 16 on their own are gone. South Korea will need to win their final group game against Germany by at least five goals, and Colombia will need to beat Morocco to advance to the round of 16. However, with Germany expected to come out firing on all cylinders in the wake of the Colombian upset, it’s not realistic to expect South Korea to pull off a blowout win against the Germans.

South Korea will play their final group game against Germany at 7 p.m. on Aug. 3 at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia. South Korea will need to play the kind of soccer they have been preparing for in their final game.
