Malaysia wins second straight over Chinese Taipei to lead Group D
‘Pangon magic, one more time!’
Kim Pangon’s Malaysia beat Chinese Taipei to make it two wins in a row in Asia’s second round of qualifying for the FIFA Confederations Cup North America 2026. A dramatic come-from-behind victory was followed by an away win to boost their momentum. They have now won their opening two matches to reach six points and jump to the top of Group D.
Malaysia faced off against Chinese Taipei at the Munishipal Stadium in Taipei, Taiwan on Nov. 21 (local time) in their second away match of Group D of the 2026 North American Football Championship Asia Second Qualifying Round. They overcame the home disadvantage to win a tightly contested match.
We started the game in a 3-4-3 formation. The first half ended 0-0, and the score remained 0-0 until the beginning of the second half, when we were unable to open the opponent’s goal easily.
In the 27th minute of the second half, the balance was broken. Darren Locke scored the first goal of the game to give us the lead. Rock came on as a substitute in the 17th minute of the second half and scored within 10 minutes. Kim Pang Gon’s mercenary skills shone brightly once again. From there, Malaysia held off the Chinese Taipei offense to secure the win.
The good vibes from their 4-3 home win over Kyrgyzstan in Round 1 continued with back-to-back wins. In the first match on the 16th, they pulled off a stunning upset against Kyrgyzstan. They came back from a 1-3 deficit to turn the game around. They scored goals in the 27th and 32nd minutes to tie the game, and then scored the game-winning goal in the 45th minute to secure the three points.
With their second straight win, sweeping both the first and second games, Malaysia moved to six points at the top of Group D. Kyrgyzstan and Oman sit 먹튀검증 atop the group standings heading into their second round matches. Chinese Taipei slumped to the bottom of the standings with no points after a second straight loss.
Meanwhile, Malaysia will face Klinsmann in the group stage of the Qatar Asian Cup 2024. They are drawn together in Group E. They will play their third group game against South Korea on Jan. 25 next year.
