No. 2 Hyundai E&C sweeps No. 3 GS Caltex for third straight win…

Women’s professional volleyball team Hyundai E&C swept GS Caltex to stay in second place.

The team defeated GS Caltex with a set score of 3-1 (25-21 25-15 20-25) in the Dodram 2023-2024 V-League Women’s Division at Suwon Gymnasium in Gyeonggi-do, Gyeonggi-do, on Nov. 26.

Riding a three-game winning streak, second-ranked Hyundai E&C improved its record to 7-4 and 23 points, widening the gap to third-ranked GS Caltex (7-4 and 19 points).

Hyundai E&C had a tough time in the first set. They were unable to overcome their opponents’ strong serves.

Hyundai E&C’s first-set receiving efficiency fluctuated wildly, reaching just 9.09%.

Hyundai E&C trailed 12-17 at one point in the first set.

However, foreign player Vasoko Leticia (registered name Moma) and Asian quota player Wipawi Sithong (registered name Wipawi) came alive and turned the tide.

Moma scored back-to-back points from behind the arc at 12-17, and Wipawi put the ball into the opponent’s court at 14-18.

The momentum quickly shifted in Hyundai E&C’s favor. At 20-20, HHI scored back-to-back points with a center attack by Yang Hyo-jin and a block by Moma to take the first set.

The momentum continued in the second set. Lee Da-hyun and Jeong Ji-yoon actively participated in the offense and easily made the set score 2-0.

Hyundai E&C dropped the third set but managed to finish the match without any crisis in the fourth set.

At 16-15, Wipawi executed back-to-back staggered attacks, and Yang Hyo-jin blocked a hard hit from the opposing foreign player Giselle Silva (registered name Silva).

Yang combined with her five blocks to finish with a game-high 21 points, followed by Moma with 19 and Wipawi with 15.

GS Caltex Silva added 18 points but was held to 30.19 percent shooting.

In the men’s match at Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul, OK Financial Group defeated Woori Card in straight sets, 3-0 (25-16 25-18 28-26).

The fourth-ranked OK Financial Group improved to 18 points (7-4) and closed the gap on third-ranked Samsung Fire (19-7-3), which has played one game less, to one point.

Woori Card (22-8-3), which suffered its first back-to-back defeats this season, failed to add to its points tally and missed a chance to overtake leader Korean Air (25-8-3).

OK Financial Group star Leonardo Leyva Martinez (real name Leo) scored a game-high 19 points (56.25% from the field) for both teams.

On the court, OKFG players did a good job of avoiding the Woori Card blocking wall and effectively blocked the opponent’s offense.

OK Financial Group outscored Woori Card 10-2 in blocked shots.

The game was attended by 3,091 fans, the highest number for the men’s team this season. The previous record for the 2023-2024 Men’s League was 3,072 for the October 15 game between Woori Card and Samsung Fire.
