Chairman Kim Jae-yeol Welcomes the Election of IOC Members
‘Three Korean IOC members’ system for the first time in 18 years… “Our voices will be louder”
“Marine Corps training is of the nature of strengthening ‘resolution’…
If it has a negative impact on athletic performance, it will of course be excluded.”
“The sport (Kim Jae-yeol), the athlete (Yoo Seung-min), and the national anthem (Lee Ki-heung).
It’s perfect, right?” 카지노
Lee Ki-heung, president of the Korea Sports Council, greatly welcomed the election of Kim Jae-yeol,
president of the International Skating Union (ISU) and president of the Samsung Economic Research Institute,
as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Chairman Lee met with Yonhap News at the Mokpo Indoor Swimming Pool where the swimming competition was held on the morning of the 19th,
the closing day of the 104th Jeonnam National Sports Festival (National Sports Festival).
With Chairman Kim becoming an IOC member, the number of Korean IOC members increased to three.
Chairman Lee Ki-heung serves as a member of the IOC as a representative of the National Olympic Committee (NOC), and Yoo Seung-min, president of the Korea Table Tennis Association, has served as an IOC athlete member.
In addition, Chairman Kim became a new IOC member as the representative of the International Federation (IF) for each event.
This is the first time in 18 years that the system of three Korean IOC members has been established since 2002-2005, when the late Kim Un-yong, the late Lee Kun-hee, and Chairman Park Yong-seong served as IOC members at the same time.
Expectations are growing that Korea’s diplomatic power will become stronger on the international sports stage.
Chairman Lee said, “The perfect framework for collaboration has been created with the ‘three beats’ of ‘sport (Kim Jae-yeol),
athlete (Yoo Seung-min), and country (Ki Heung Lee),” adding, “There are many tasks such as the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics, and our voices are heard.”
“It will grow,” he said.
As Chairman Kim is a member of the Samsung family, there are cautious predictions among sportspeople that his election as an IOC member could be an opportunity to recover sports investment by companies that shrank after the Choi Soon-sil scandal.
Chairman Lee said, “After the Choi Soon-sil incident, large corporations are avoiding investing in sports,
which is a very disappointing point,” and expressed concern that “the environment for elite sports has become very weak.”
He continued, “If our athletes perform well in the Asian Games and Olympics, our national reputation will increase.
“If the brand value of the Republic of Korea increases, companies will benefit more than anyone else,” he said.
“Companies should invest in sports and create infrastructure.”
Chairman Lee was very cautious about the possibility that Chairman Kim’s election as an IOC member would immediately lead to an expansion of corporate investment in sports,
but said, “There is a role and responsibility (that comes with it).
I hope companies will pay a lot of attention.”
Chairman Yoo’s term as IOC Athletes’ Commissioner has less than a year left until the 2024 Paris Olympics.
‘Golf Empress’ Inbee Park will succeed Chairman Yoo and run for the IOC Athletes’ Commission.
If he is elected in the election held for participating athletes during the Paris Olympics,
Korea’s ‘three IOC member’ system will continue.
However, there are predictions that Chairman Kim’s election as an IOC member this time may have a detrimental effect on Inbee Park’s election.
Chairman Lee Ki-heung said about this, “It is possible.
However, it is a task that we must all overcome together.”
He continued, “This is an issue that requires athletes, the government,
and even our citizens to work together.
I will take the lead.
I am continuing to appeal to the IOC (so that there will be no problems with Park In-bee’s election).”
Immediately after attending the opening ceremony of the National Sports Festival on the 13th,
he flew to Mumbai, India and attended the IOC General Assembly where Chairman Kim was elected as an IOC member.
As soon as he returned home from the General Assembly schedule, he came down to Mokpo.
Although he could only attend the closing ceremony in the evening,
he showed his love for the ‘sports scene’ by visiting the Mokpo indoor swimming pool.
He is also the former president of the Korea Swimming Federation.
Chairman Lee caused controversy by saying at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games disbandment ceremony that ended earlier this month that he would ensure that next year’s national team will receive Marine Corps training.
There was criticism that it was ‘old-fashioned leadership’.
When asked about this, Chairman Lee asked as if it were absurd,
saying, “This is not the ‘Year of the Seven Years’ and I would have said something like that without even thinking about it.”
He emphasized, “We will give athletes a choice according to the characteristics of each sport. 토토사이트 백링크
If training can have a negative impact, it should of course be excluded,” adding, “Marine Corps training is meant to strengthen ‘resolution’ ahead of the Paris Olympics.”
