Woods receives Bob Jones Award from United States Golf Association

‘Golf Emperor’ Tiger Woods (USA) was selected as the winner of the United States Golf Association (USGA) Bob Jones Award on the 3rd (Korean time).

This award is given by the USGA to a player who has shown outstanding sportsmanship and is recognized as the highest honor among awards organized by the USGA.

The award has been given since 1955, named after Bobby Jones (USA), who won a total of 13 major championships in the 1920s and 1930s.

This year is the first time Woods has received this award.

USGA CEO Mike Wan explained the reason for selecting Woods as this year’s winner, saying, “This award recognizes not only the performance, but also the impact of the journey of a person who changed the image of golf and contributed to the growth of golf.”

Woods was inducted into the Golf Hall of Fame in 2022, and in 2019, he received the Medal of Freedom from then-President Donald Trump.

Woods expressed his feelings through the USGA, saying, “I am honored to receive an award with Jones’ name engraved on it, and to join the many people who received this award before me.”

The awards ceremony will be held at the US Open venue in June this year.

Before Woods, Arnold Palmer (1971), Jack Nicklaus (1975), Mickey Wright (2010), Ben Hogan (1976), and former U.S. President George W. Bush (2008) received this award, and the only Korean to receive this award was Se-ri Pak. was selected as the 2020 winner. 온라인섯다
