It was the best pitching performance in the KBO.
Kia Tigers substitute foreign pitcher Cam Aldred picked up his second win of the season. Aldred pitched 6⅔ innings of one-hit, two-run ball with nine strikeouts against the LG Twins at Jamsil Stadium on Nov. 11. With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning with his team leading 3-0, Aldred earned the win as the game ended in a 4-2 victory. It was his first victory in over a month, following a complete-game shutout against KT on March 14th.
In the bottom of the first inning, Aldred struck out Hong Chang-ki and Moon Sung-joo on consecutive pitches. He then battled Austin Dean for eight pitches before striking him out to end the inning.
The strikeout show continued. In the bottom of the second inning, he struck out the leadoff batter, Moon Bo-kyung, on a foul fly, and then struck out Park Dong-won and Oh Ji-hwan in succession. In the bottom of the third inning, he continued his perfect pitching by striking out Koo Bon-hyeok and Park Hae-min back-to-back.
The LG batters didn’t stand still.
They began to adjust their batting positions and timing to counter Aldred’s sweepers, which curved in from the outside, but Aldred proved to be a master of his craft by retiring the next three batters in order in the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fifth, he struck out the first batter he faced, Moon Bo-kyung, to set a new KBO record for most strikeouts in a single game.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, 메이저사이트 Aldred again fired a sweeper on a full count against Park Dong-won, but it was well out of the zone and allowed the first run to score. However, he induced a grounder to third base in the next at-bat to get out of the inning just three batters later and easily reached the win column.
In the seventh inning, Aldred returned to the mound. After getting the first batter, Moon Sung-ju, on a fielder’s choice, Aldred allowed Austin’s only hit of the day. After inducing a grounder to Bo-Kyung Moon at second base to get the lead runner out, pitching coach Jung Jae-Hoon took the mound. The Kia fans cheered as Aldred walked off the mound.
After the game,
Aldred said, “The batters gave up runs early on, so I felt comfortable throwing. It was my second time facing LG, and it was good in my last outing, so I threw with the memory of that time in mind,” he said, adding, “I threw a cutter that I hadn’t thrown before, and I utilized about five to 10 of them, which was the main reason.”
Aldred also broke his own KBO records for most innings pitched and most strikeouts in a single game. “I think this is the most innings I’ve pitched in my career, including in the U.S.,” he said, “so I had a little bit of a desire to finish the game. It was unfortunate that I didn’t (finish the seventh inning), but I followed the coaching staff’s decision for the team.”
“I made my debut in Jamsil and today was my second start in Jamsil,” Aldred said, adding, “I was really impressed with the support and the noise from the fans, even though it was away from home, and I’m even happier that the team won.”
