SSG Kim Gwang-hyun Makes his First Sortie in Relief
Professional baseball SSG Landers ace Kim Gwang-hyun (35)
will take the mound for an exhibition game a day early.
SSG coach Lee Soong-yong said ahead of the KT Wiz match held at KT Wiz Park in Suwon on the 11th,
“Because there is rain forecast for tomorrow (the 12th),
we moved up the mound,” and added, “I think the number of pitches will be around 60.”

In order to fit the mound for the opening game on the 23rd,
the most natural thing is for the starting pitcher to take the mound on the 12th and then take the mound one more time.
However, as the forecast for rain came out across the country on the 12th,
SSG adjusted the pitch date of Kim Gwang-hyun, who is likely to be selected for the opening game.
Manager Lee left it to Kim Gwang-hyun to decide the starting rotation order and number of pitches on his own.
SSG Coach Lee Soong-yong
Coach Lee explained, “From the beginning, I gave everything to Kim Gwang-hyun, saying,
‘If you do well, our team will become stronger.’
You may have a hard time, but in a way, you may find it fun.”
He then revealed the reason for giving decision-making power to Kim Gwang-hyun, saying,
“I think players like Kim Gwang-hyun and Choi Jeong deserve to be treated (making many decisions on their own).
It will be more helpful for them to manage themselves.”
Gwang-Hyun Kim is scheduled to take the mound on this day following SSG starter Roenis Elias.
Meanwhile, Coach Lee calmly expressed his feelings about meeting KT,
whom he had worked for for a long time, as his opponent.
Coach Lee began his leadership career at KT in 2014,
took over as KT general manager in 2019, and laid the foundation for the team’s first win in 2021.
And ahead of this season, he took charge of SSG.
Coach Lee said, “I first started coaching at KT, and it is true that I have more affection for it,” but added,
“Everyone now recognizes KT as a contender for the championship.
