Finding a PG who will play 20+ minutes… With Big 3 salaries at $207.1 billion and egos bruised, superteam challenges
Phoenix is looking to add point guard depth.
Arizona Sports’ John Gambodoro reported on the Phoenix Suns’ transfer market focus on “The Burns & Gambo Show” on Monday (Aug. 8).
The Suns solidified their win-now approach by acquiring Bradley Beal in a trade last summer. The intention was to challenge for a championship with a Kevin Durant-Davin Booker-Bradley Beal big three.
But Phoenix’s season fell far short of expectations. After a shaky regular season that nearly dropped them into the play-in tournament, they narrowly missed out on the No. 6 seed after a late-season 토토사이트 순위 jockeying for position.
Their first-round opponent was nemesis Minnesota, a team they dominated every time they met in the regular season, but it was a different story. Phoenix crumbled against Minnesota’s stout defense and was humiliated in a four-game sweep.
That’s why Phoenix has a busy summer ahead of them. They’ve already given up too many future resources to turn to a rebuild. They’ll have to play their cards as close to the vest as possible to challenge for a championship. Still, the quick hiring of Mike Budenholzer, a championship-winning coach, is encouraging.
A Gambodoro reporter familiar with Phoenix news revealed three areas of need that the Phoenix Suns are prioritizing. They are a point guard who can play 20+ minutes, an upgrade at backup big man, and a young wing with athleticism.
All three are areas of need for Phoenix, but point guard is the most glaring. This season, the Suns have been without a commander in chief who can lead the team. They utilized Bradley Beal and Devin Booker to try and fill the void, but it wasn’t enough.
Without a reliable point guard, it’s hard to cook a dish with good ingredients. The lack of a point guard was a big reason why Phoenix fell apart in the playoffs.
Fans, the organization, and experts alike recognize this problem. But the problem is Phoenix’s salary cap situation. The trio of Durant, Booker, and Beal alone are due $150 million next season, while Jusuf Nurkic and Grayson Allen are due over $15 million each. Realistically, it’s not going to be easy to land a quality point guard.
Therefore, Phoenix may have to bleed money and make a trade to get the point guard they want. It’s a tricky situation for the Suns.
